Teaching of Science and Mathematics in English – open feedback welcomed

PETALING JAYA: Stakeholders attending the Education Ministry’s fifth roundtable discussion on the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English today are free to speak their minds.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong assured that the session would not be a monologue and that “we are here to listen to all views.”

Dr Wee, the roundtable discussion chairman, told The Star that the ministry had held four similar discussions with stakeholders to gather their views on the policy over the past year.

The stakeholders included representatives from parent-teacher associations; non-governmental organisations and academics. Education director-general Datuk Alimuddin Mohd Dom said he would be presenting the analysis of the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) results to the 200 participants at the roundtable discussion.

“Three papers will be presented while a summary of the previous roundtables will also be discussed.”
