Melaka River Cruise is an example of a first class facilities with third world mindset

There used to be a tour guide on the boat to brief tourists on the historic events and buildings along the Melaka River in 2006.

I feel disappointed with the service quality today after the government pumped in millions for the river facelifting. The hardware is improving a lot but the software is heading southward.

The whole trip was accompanied by boring Malay songs, a human guided cruise was totally missing. Besides, the boat I rode did not bother to provide life jackets.

The price advertised in the travel brochure is RM5, but the company charged RM10 for adult. I hope Malaysian government looks into this unscrupulous practice seriously.

The Melaka river cruise is rated at third world standard with unprofessional service standard.

They shall at least learn from river cruise operators in Europe of providing MP3 audio travel aid to toursits IF they think human tour guide is not cost effective.

Let forget to self-proclaim Melaka is a word-class tourist destination if Melaka river cruise is our yardstick.

Below is the reply from an officer of the Melaka government.

I have kept the ticket with 03/04/2009 and Adult RM10.00 printed on it.  I have asked boat operator to refund overcharging fees to all tourists from local and overseas.

Hello Mr XXXX,

I will look forward your complaint about this and will bring to the meeting. I will write officially to the boat operator regarding this matter and monitor their service frequently.

For your information, about the life jacket, it is compulsory and during the boat ride,  they will guide you about the Melaka River history and play the Melaka traditional songs such as Dondang Sayang.

The ticket price should be RM5 / adult during the weekdays & RM10 / adult during the weekends.

I hope you are not feel discourage and disappointed about this. We will improve our hardware & software asap towards Melaka Develope State 2010. Thank you.

One boring cruise along Malacca river

I TOOK a cruise on the Malacca river recently, and felt disappointed with the quality of service even after the Government pumped in millions to upgrade facilities. The hardware has improved a lot but the software is heading south.

The whole trip was accompanied by boring songs. Besides, the boat I rode did not bother to provide life jackets.

In 2006, there used to be a tour guide on the boat to brief tourists on the historic events and buildings along the river. There was no guide this time. The price advertised in the travel brochure is RM5, but the company charged RM10 for adults. I hope the Government would look into this unscrupulous practice.

The river cruise is just third class. The authorities should follow river cruise operators in Europe and provide MP3 audio travel aid to tourists.
