Pakatan to resolve alcohol issue

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Rakyat will meet next week to decide on the controversy involving the sale of alcohol in Selangor and PAS’ call for state exco member Ronnie Liu to be stripped of his post.

PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said all matters involving the Opposition alliance would be discussed at the Pakatan Rakyat Leaders Council meeting on Thursday.

The Selangor state executive council meeting today is set to discuss the controversial issues.

Meanwhile, the PAS central leadership has distanced itself from a purported protest rally to be held to demand for Liu to be stripped of his post as Selangor Local Government Committee chairman.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said there were no plans to hold any demonstrations, adding that the party would leave it to the state government to decide on the issue of alcohol sale.

He was referring to speculation that Selangor PAS Youth was planning to hold a protest rally.

When contacted, Selangor PAS Youth chief Hasbullah Ridzwan denied stating that such a rally was being planned.

“I only said we will wait for the state exco to decide, as the Mentri Besar has promised us that there will be a solution.

“I was asked if I would apply for a police permit (for the rally). I said if we have decided to protest, then of course we will go ahead even if we do not have a permit. But I did not say we were going to demonstrate for sure,” he explained.
