Lim Guan Eng is a king of excuse

Do not expect LGE to be a savior for poor rakyat and good government.

Most ridiculous news I’ve ever known is LGE’s right-hand man said Penang government cannot terminate the contracts of under-perfomed garbage collectors for fear of Fed government is taking over such service.

Why the Selangor PR government got gut and courage to change contractors, but not in Penang?

LGE and his gang are so creative to find such excuse to blame BN central government for their own fault in Batu Maung garbage disposal blunder.

Michael Jackson is the king of pop, while LGE is the king of excuse. LOL

Garbage disposal poser for Penang govt

by Bernard Cheah

GEORGE TOWN (Sept 22, 2009) : Penang is in a quandary over its garbage disposal management system as it is unable to replace its contractors due to fears of a possible federal government takeover of the service against the state government’s wishes.

The chief minister’s political secretary, Ng Wei Aik, said provisions in the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Management Act approved by Parliament in 2007 provided for this scenario.

As such, he explained that no contractor was willing to make investments in buying new facilities or equipment to improve the system’s performance.

To make matters worse, the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) and Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) cannot terminate the services of inefficient contractors, even though the contracts had expired, or hire new ones due to takeover fears.

“Therefore, we had to extend the contracts,” he lamented in a statement issued yesterday.

Ng, who is also the Penang DAP’s political secretary, was replying to Penang Gerakan chairman Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan who led a party delegation to the Batu Maung dumping centre during the weekend after four lorries ferrying rubbish from there to the Pulau Burung landfill on the mainland broke down.

Piles of rubbish were then left near the seaside and the residents nearby began to complain about the stench.

Ng stressed that the department of environment (DOE) had sent its officers to carry out investigations at the Batu Maung centre, which included imposing a compound fine of RM84,000 against the contractor involved.

“At the same time, the state government has instructed the contractor to repair the road surface to ensure no lorry accidents will happen again,” he added.

“MPPP has sent its officers to spray effective micro-organisms (EM) on the rubbish load daily to solve the problem of smell which could be deemed poisonous to people,” he said.

As of Sept 19, the contractor had ferried about 2,025 tonnes of waste by lorry from Batu Maung to Pulau Burung, while 2,500 tonnes were carried through barges across the Penang channel, he added.

I have highlighted this issue on my blog,

Prior to it, the state government just pretend nothing happened. Unable to withstand the way I called him, the Cheap Minister of Darul Sampah, LGE finally seem to be doing something. But it is a bit too late, his inaction lays bare his total incompetent as CM of Penang.
