Another BN project… to buy votes from poor rakyat

I have no objection on this scheme, but feel the coupon distribution mechanism is wrong and immoral for members of parliament (of course BN MPs) to involve in its implementation.

The money is taxpayers’ money, not BN money.

Govt reminds eligible families to register for free rice

SERDANG: Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar has reminded families eligible for the free rice coupons scheme to register with the ministry, via any of its agencies.

Speaking to reporters during Mardi’s Hari Raya open house here today, he said the government nevertheless, needed to update the list.

He said that initially, the government would give 200,000 coupons, adding that whoever felt they were eligible for the coupons could register their names at any of the ministry’s agencies.

“However, this does not mean that when one registers, one would automatically get the free rice as we need to verify the status of the applicants,” he said.

According to Noh, the ministry’s continuous update was needed as there were eligible families which had either moved out of the area, attained better economic standard or passed away.

The scheme, which was announced yesterday, will begin in December and the coupons will be distributed next month.

Among the ministry’s agencies available for registration include the fisheries, veterinary and agriculture departments, Fama, Mardi, Kada and Agro Bank.

The coupons will be distributed by members of parliament or the respective constituency’s agriculture development chairman.

Noh reminded the public that each family would receive three coupons and families registered under hardcore poverty would receive coupons worth RM24 while poor families would receive RM10 coupons. – Bernama
