When Arabic culture was patented and owned by UMNO Malays?

They claimed Allah as theirs, now assalamualaikum also is alleged exclusively reserved for UMNO Malays.

Malaysia is truly a donkeyland! Welcome to donkeyland!

Kebun Bunga rep: I won’t stop using Arabic greeting

GEORGE TOWN: Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong Khan Lee said he would continue to use the Arabic greeting ‘assalamualaikum’ during public meetings.

“I will continue using the word as my fellow brothers in PKR have no objections to it.

“I have been using the word for many years. It is an Arabic greeting just like the Jewish greeting ‘shalom’ which means peace,” he said.

In her ‘Musings’ column in The Star, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir wrote that the greeting means “peace be with you” and is a civil greeting.

“So why make war out of it? How come when President Barack Obama used the same greeting when he went to Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world, nobody objected?” she wrote.

She added that if President Obama went to Penang and did the same thing, there would be ‘appreciative applause’ and ‘pleased shuffling’.

She said the greeting is used widely in the Arab world and is not patented by Muslims or owned by God.

When contacted, state Opposition leader and Penaga assemblyman Datuk Azhar Ibrahim said his religious teacher had taught him that the greeting is used by Muslims only.

“We each have different religions and whoever supports non-Muslims using the greeting is answerable to God,” he said.

He said the greeting should not be used to fish for votes or just for ‘show’.

Last month, Ong drew flak from Azhar and Seberang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Arif Shah Omar for using the greeting when addressing a group of university and college students at the state assembly building.

State Religious Affairs Committee chairman Abdul Malik Abul Kassim has backed Ong’s use of the greeting.
