Now is MCA Johor, Chua Soi Lek turn to enlighten non-Muslims that no similar blanket closure again during the Awal-Muharam holiday in Johor.

Entertainment Ban In Kedah Applies To Muslims Only – Hadi

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) — The enforcement of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1997 during the month of Ramadan by the Kedah state government only applies to Muslims, said PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

He said this was clarified by the Kedah government’s representative, Mohd Sanusi Md Noor, who is the political secretary to the Kedah Menteri Besar, during a briefing session to PAS’ central committee members here Sunday.

“Entertainment outlets in Kedah will operate as normal during Ramadan but are restricted to non-Muslims.

“It is the best solution…non-Muslims are not prevented from going to entertainment outlets and at the same time, Muslims are reminded to fulfill their Ramadan obligations,” he told a press conference here.

He said entertainment outlet operators in Kedah had agreed to the move and risked action being taken including their business licences revoked if they were found to have allowed Muslims to patronise their outlets.

Abdul Hadi blamed to the media for inaccurate reporting on the matter which resulted in non-Muslims protesting the move by the Kedah government ordering all entertainment outlets in the state to close during Ramadan.

Meanwhile, Mohd Sanusi, when approached by reporters after the press conference, said the enforcement of the enactment would be left to the police.

On Wednesday, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak announced that the enactment would be fully enforced this Ramadan but the move received widespread protests from MCA and Gerakan as well as PAS partner DAP.

The issue was reported to have been resolved after Azizan held a meeting with entertainment outlet operators in the state yesterday but on the condition that Muslims be barred from the outlets.
