Theft of explosives still a mystery

The Star/Asia News Network

KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia – The theft of a cache of 700 detonators and explosives from a quarry in Menggatal remains a mystery.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said police were continuing their probe.

The police have released the nine people initially detained to help in investigations following the incident that occurred between April 24 and 28.

“There are no leads as yet and there has been no recovery of the stolen items, which are 600 electrical detonators and some 100 Emulex rods,” he said.

(Emulex packaged explosives are the most advanced water-based emulsion explosives widely used in quarries.)

Kota Kinabalu city police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said the nine detainees, including two security guards, have been released on police bail after their arrest on April 29.
