Abuse of court system to stop a MP from moving around in Malaysia by YTL

This is another barbaric legal action to stop a MP and a group of Indians from attending their traditional festival celebration.

Move to bar Tian Chua from Deepavali event

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 4, 2013): Batu MP Tian Chua had a surprise awaiting him when he attended a Deepavali celebration at Kampung Railway on Saturday – an injunction prohibiting him from attending the event.

He stayed on at the event despite the court order obtained by YTL Corporation through its developer, Sentul Raya Sdn Bhd (SRSB).

PKR MPs R. Sivarasa, G. Manivanan, N. Surendran, William Leong and Wong Chen also attended the celebration organised by 140 families who live on land which previously belonged to Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad.

The land in question was privatised to YTL Corporation in 1993.

The PKR politician said he only found out about the court order after attending the event.

“Limiting the movements of an elected representative is not necessary at the moment while negotiations between City Hall and the residents are ongoing,” Tian Chua told a press conference at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

He noted that YTL, through SRSB, had earlier obtained an injunction prohibiting the residents from holding the Deepavali celebration.

“They (YTL) said that it was not a Deepavali celebration but instead a protest against YTL,” The Malaysian Insider quoted him as saying.

Despite the court order, residents of Kampung Railway went ahead with the celebration, their last one there as they are due to be evicted to make way for development.

Residents argue that their ancestors were railway workers and their families have lived in the area for more than 100 years.

“I am calling on the Federal Territories minister to intervene and ask YTL to withdraw its injunction against me to go into the area as it is a barrier for me in doing my job,” Tian Chua said.

SRSB is reportedly planning a high, medium and low-cost housing project, and a court order in favour of YTL has been granted to evacuate and relocate the families in Kampung Railway.
