Petaling Jaya Utara Umno deputy division leader Mohamad Azli Mohemed Saad was reported by Malay-language daily Utusan Malaysia today as saying that he did not understand MCA’s Datuk Ti Lian Ker’s strong reaction against him.

“As a Malay and a strong supporter of MCA, I will always vote for MCA candidates in all elections even though the Chinese will not,” he said in a statement carried by the Umno-owned daily.

Mohamad Azli previously mocked them as having been rejected by the Chinese community and surviving in elections only on the support of Malay voters.

In the report today, he said the rejection of MCA was not surprising as the Barisan Nasional’s (BN) second-largest party previously refused to address engage rival DAP over “lies” about the Chinese community.

“We stand with and support the MCA despite its decision to accept an approach of appeasing the enemy, to DAP’s delight,” he added.

Mohamad Azli reportedly said during the weekend that the upcoming Umno meeting in November should discuss abolishing the Chinese vernacular school system, as it is purportedly exploited by the opposition to promote racism and anti-government sentiments.

His remarks angered leaders from MCA, BN’s Chinese component party, who later lodged a police report against him for sedition.

The police said, however, they would not pursue investigations against Mohamad Azli under the Sedition Act 1948 as the case has been classified a civil matter.

He then engaged in an exchange of hostilities with leaders of the Chinese party, reportedly telling them to “shut [their] mouth” and not meddle in what he described as Umno’s affairs.
