FMT Reporters | February 25, 2015
Terengganu to start enforcing laws against prayer truancy, immodest dressing, inappropriate companionship on motorcycles and cross dressing.

Muslim men who miss the Friday congregational prayers will be paraded in a hearse through town, according to an Utusan Malaysia report quoting Terengganu religious authorities and Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.
Razif said the authorities had completed their deliberations on possible punishments for prayer truancy and had decided on the hearse option. It would be enforced soon, he added.

Those who are caught, especially ‘Mat Rempit’ (hooligans on motorcycles) who disturb the peace during the Friday prayers, will also have to undergo religious counseling by the Terengganu Islamic Affairs and Malay Customs Council (Maidam).

The state government has declared that Maidam has its full support.

Ahmad Razif disclosed that he had asked the Terengganu Religious Affairs Department (JHEAT) to look into the possibility of setting up a centre for counseling and religious education.

The state will also start enforcing the Syariah Criminal Offences (Terengganu) Part 1V Section 35. Under the section, a women who exposes any part of her body in public that arouses passion will be liable to a fine not exceeding RM1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both.

Action will also be taken against any woman who rides a motorcycle with a man who is not a close relative.
The enforcement will also target cross dressers.
