When Malaysia can install such aesthetic solar street lights?

Let forget made in China solar street light which was tested unreliable by Melaka City Hall.

New Solar Trees Light Up Angkor Wat, Cambodia
Amanda Reed, 10 Sep 10

New solar powered street lights installed in Angkor Wat, Cambodia add much needed public lighting to the area, in a fun, low-energy design that increases night-time safety and facilitates greater earnings for local businesses. Nothing Design Group conceived of the tree-like design, and developed the lights in partnership with Asiana Airlines and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The project team wished to create lights that would both increase night-time safety and help elevate Cambodia’s image.

As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Angkor Wat attracts many tourists, but before the lights were installed, many did not venture out at night. Now, the added lighting encourages both tourists and residents to be out at night, which creates benefits for both: tourists can integrate more with the local community and locals can generate more income by keeping markets and other businesses open later.

So far, 16 solar streetlights have been installed, and the team plans to install 5 to 10 more a year until 2015.

Misconception on coal-fired plant is dirty energy

There are environmental NGOs in the country and international may lack the technical knowhow on electricity generation from various energy sources involved in Sabah energy planning. Too many cooks may spoil the broth.

Green tech power like solar, wind turbine, geothermal, etc. is not the viable option for urgent needs of extra electricity in Sabah due to high cost and inconsistency in supply.

A knee jerk reaction is not unusual when so-called dirty energy from coal-fired plant is proposed nowadays in a more green conscious world.

Misconception on coal-fired plant is dirty energy, comparatively with diesel and natural gas is too prevalent among our peoples. But new development in the coal-fired technology has reduced particles and CO2 emission levels to as low as natural gas powered plant.

The project engineer has just to source for a state of the art coal-fired plant by paying a premium to enjoy cleaner air and meeting the immediate needs of electricity in Sabah. A stone kills two birds, and it makes all stakeholders happier.

Govt will seek public’s views on proposed coal-fired plant in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The Government will take into account the views and concerns of the people, including non-governmental organisations (NGOs), on the proposed coal-fired plant in Lahad Datu. The plant is primarily aimed at boosting electricity supply in Sabah.

“We will take into account their views but whatever we do, it will be based on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report, and we will make sure we conform to the EIA report,” Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak told reporters after attending a luncheon with Sabah Chinese community leaders here Sunday.

Nuclear power plant is the way to go for our future energy needs

I’ve reluctantly to support nuclear plant for the pragmatic reason, not for the sake of supporting BN.

Green energy will not be 100% ready to substitute fossil fuels in the next 20-50 years.

The choose of location for nuclear plant is subjected to several stringent requirements. Some of them are availability of abundant water supply and solid foundation.

As reported, the plant will be located in the area consuming most energy. Only three locations meeting this requirement; Penang, Klang Valley and Johor Bahru.

I do not mind the plant is located in my kampong provided

- The maintenance and operational works must be outsourced to a reliable foreign country. Germany and French have a good record on nuclear power management.

- Free electricity for residents located within 10 km from the plant; 50% discount for residents within 10 to 30 km and 30% for residents within 30 to 50 km.

Government has to disseminate the fact to public, the nuclear plant is safer than driving car.

We also need transparency on this kind of billion RM contracts like open tender for cost and safety reasons.
