Now chicken burger is another black heart food

The burgers we buy from the roadside stalls could be sourced from underground factories made from scrapped chicken skins and neats.

My three favorable hawker foods; burger, fried banana and chicken all are contaminated with black heart raw materials.

What healthy and safe food I can find from the hawkers?

Muar Chinese Food :: Laksa

Muar laksa is known as curry mee in Penang. The ingredients are mee, bishun, fresh clams, dried shrimps, shredded egg omelettes, bean sprouts and coconut milk mixed in the curry soup. A bit spicy to suit local taste buds. Hua Nam laksa is yummy than any curry mee dishes I tasted in Penang.

Muar Chinese Food :: Teochew Pork Offal Soup

The soup is odor-free unlike other pork offal soups. The pork meat and organs are nicely cooked with its texture and taste maintained. Normal dish is priced at RM5.

The cafe condition is bad with uneven cement floor. Try not to use its toilet before your meal.

Afterthought of reading Lim Kim Cherng's Muar food reviews in the China Press

This trishaw is not Muar traditional trishaw which is pedalled from the left side.

My stomach feels hungry after reading many Muar Chinese food reviews by Lim 林金城, a gourmet writer in the China Press. Most Chinese foods in Muar city are Teochew-styled, their tastes are remained unchanged and authentic since 60s and 70s.

Besides Penang, Muar is another gourmet haven in Malaysia. Melaka Hainan chicken rice ball is believed to be originated from Muar. Malay cuisines like mee Bandung, asam pedas, rojak, satay, etc. are also my favorite snacks.

A food of thought, if Muar can attract 10% tourists visiting Melaka for a day trip, meaning 1 million plus tourists a year to Muar that is a cash cow for Muar people.

Unfortunately, Muar council is still too pathetic, rigid and lazy to promote Muar tourism products to outside world. For example, Muar tourist map in Malay language does not help foreign tourists at all to venture and explore Muar.

There is not a single Muar promotion leaflet or brochure for tourists ever printed by Johor government.

These “makan” places will be reviewed and updated in English in www.tourmalaysia.com when I return to Muar, probably this weekend.

These are links from The China Press in case you can read Chinese language.

Substitute to Quaker Oats

I started consuming oats since two years ago for its zero cholesterol content. I’m not expecting to live longer but be healthy is more important. No all cholesterols are bad to our health, our body still need a certain amount of cholesterols for cell membrane growth.

The new recipe I invented is cooked oats and porridges with fresh milk. Pour in fresh milk after the oats is fully cooked and keep it boiling for 5 to 10 minutes.

If you wanna change your diet, I suggest you buy the cheaper oats from the Giant or Econ supermarket with just a half of price compared to branded oats as mentioned below.

800g package costs less than RM5 compared to more than RM 10 for branded one.

Eating more bananas will also reduce emotional stress and depression.

A bad habit I still cannot get rid of is lack of routine exercise, a critical component for maintaining good health in the long run.

THE grand prize winner in the Quaker Oats Smart Heart Challenge 2011, Normala Nordin, not only managed to reduce her cholesterol by 32.89%, she also ended up RM7,000 richer — thanks to the prize money.

“This challenge has changed not only my life but also that of my family members too. All of us have benefited from the programme,” she said after receiving her prize from PepsiCo (Malaysia) general manager Edwin Africa recently.

According to the company, in just 30 days, a staggering 73% of people from all over Malaysia managed to reduce their total cholesterol levels.

This year, the Quaker Smart Heart Challenge achieved an even wider reach by using the Internet to enable more participants to join in, nationwide.

Top five winners: (From left) Soo Swee Kiong (lowered his cholesterol level by 21.88%), Normala, Ahmad Tarmizee and Nurhanie Ramli (lowered her cholesterol level by 25.29%) with their mock cheques. Africa is standing third from left.
