Do you jump into a drain to save someone?

More narrow drain, its water current is more stronger according to fluid dynamics. I did crossing about 10-feet wide drain during the flooding in a palm oil plantation during my military training. You will be washed away if your both hands not holding tight a big rope, I felt the current flow is like two or three adults pulling my body. A row of water bubbles on both palms after crossing the narrow drain.

Jumping into the drain with raging flood waters is like commit suicide. I will not jump into such drain to save someone. Most I can do is finding a stick or rope for the victim to hold on it. This is the best effort you can do under such circumstances.

Body of man who tried to save drowning girl located

KUCHING: The body of a petrol station worker, who jumped into raging flood waters to save a girl in Batu Lintang on Tuesday, has been located.

Herman Sinas, 29, was found in a drain that leads to Sungai Maong at about 8.30am Saturday some 2km from where he tried to save Kho Ying Qi.

Kho, a Form Six student, fell into a drain in front of a petrol station after she left her mother’s car which had stalled.

Herman, who saw the girl struggling in the water, had jumped into the water to help. Both were dragged away by the currents.

Rescue staff are continuing the search for Kho.

Kajang flash flood, blame BN again!

Set aside the act of God with excessive rain falls, the retention wall is not ready because PR is so hawker friendly till the whole Kajang city’s safety is compromised. Believe me, PR will lose a few thousand Chinese voters who are badly affected by flash flood.

The garbages, sands, and other deposits in the drains and rivers were never cleared off for last five years.

MB Khalid, go learn from Lim Guan Eng to blame the former BN government for not building the retention wall, cleaning the clogged drains and rivers for the flash flood in Kajang.

What I can expect from three and a half years old PR government except their unfounded whining against previous government?

Retention wall blamed, too

By HAFIZ MARZUKHI

GEORGE TOWN: A 200m uncompleted stretch of retention wall at Sungai Jelok has been identified as another contributor for the flash floods in Kajang town last Friday.

Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) director-general Datuk Ahmad Husaini Sulaiman said there was a 2m high retention wall running along 1km of the river, but one stretch of the wall had yet to be completed.

“When the river flooded, the water overflowed into the town through that stretch,” he said, adding that the floods were also caused by downpour and clogged drains.

It is learnt that the retention wall could not be completed because 21 temporary stalls erected by the Kajang Municipal Council on the river reserve area could not be shifted because of an agreement with the stall owners.

The Kajang flash floods, which occurred after a three-hour downpour, caught many by surprise with water levels rising to as high as 1m.

Many properties and vehicles were damaged, with some businesses reporting huge losses.

Ahmad Husaini said the department would take several flood mitigation measures to prevent recurrence.

“We will also improve the river flow and reduce the constrictions at Sungai Jelok,” he said.

Besides the incomplete wall, Ahmad Husaini said the low soffit (underside) of the Sungai Jelok bridge in front of the Kajang market had resulted in backflow water from the river splashing into the market.

He added that the department would also pay close attention to all flood-prone areas in the country to ensure flood mitigation steps were in place.

In PETALING JAYA, a Meteorological Department report said Kajang received almost half of its December average rainfall on the day of the flash floods.

The report said the severe thunderstorm and heavy rain were caused by the convergence of wind and unstable atmosphere in the area.

On Monday, DID flood management division director Datuk Zainor Rahim Ibrahim said initial findings showed that the water flow in Sungai Jelok was constricted, resulting in its banks bursting during last week’s heavy rain.

The constrictions included the low-deck bridge as well as rubbish that clogged its water passage.

Human extinction is caused by oneself

This is a classical example of a frog in the boiled water story. The frog will be too late to jump out from the pot after it realizes the water is too hot.

Human race will be extincted from the earth due to self-destructive actions.

The new emerging intelligent creatures like rats or ants inherited the earth after human race domination will wonder why human is so stupid.

U.N.: World temperatures maintain the heat of global warming

By Arthur Max, Associated Press

DURBAN, South Africa – World temperatures keep rising, and are heading for a threshold that could lead to irreversible changes of the Earth, the United Nations weather office said Tuesday.
2011 is tied for the 10th-hottest year since records began in 1850, the office said in its annual assessment of average global temperatures. Arctic sea ice has also shrunk to record-low volumes this year, it said. The 13 hottest years on the books all have occurred in the last 15 years.

“The science is solid and proves unequivocally that the world is warming,” said R.D.J. Lengoasa, deputy director of the World Meteorological Organization, and human activity is a significant contributor.

“Climate change is real, and we are already observing its manifestations in weather and climate patterns around the world,” he said on the sidelines of the U.N. climate conference underway in South Africa.

Himpunan Hijau 109 @ Kuantan Pahang

5000 to 8000 green protesters in the 109 green assembly under the police intimidation.

As usual, Bernama reporter is like police chief who cannot count the number correctly as seen in the Bersih 2.0.

1,000 at protest against projects

Bernama

KUANTAN: The Green Assembly 109 in protest against two projects deemed hazardous to the people’s health attracted about 1,000 people at Taman Gelora here, short of the 10,000 targeted by the organisers.

The protesters, mainly residents of Kuantan and representatives of non-governmental organisations such as Suara Anak Malaysia, Save Malaysia Stop Lynas Movement and Anti Rare Earth Refinery Action Body, gathered at 6 am and dispersed three hours later.

The gathering, which was also attended by Kuantan MP and PKR vice-president Fuziah Salleh and Bersih 2.0 chairman Datuk S. Ambiga, was held to protest against the construction of the rare earth processing plant by Lynas Corporation Ltd in Gebeng and a gold mining project in Bukit Koman, Raub.

The police had issued a permit for the gathering on Friday but withdrew it yesterday evening.

Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel were deployed in the area today to monitor the situation.

At a news conference later, Fuziah said Green Assembly 109 had achieved its objective of getting the people together to protest against projects deemed hazardous to their health.

Another BN Crony WASTE Project

This is another BN project. No open tender and no bidding and a black box direct negotiation to enrich BN cronies.

The industrial parks inside the Muhyiddin’s constituency, Pagoh supposed must have waste water processing and solid waste collection facilities in each park. The OC was given to industrial park operators even without these critical facilities, and the exemption given has resulted in unprocessed waste water and pollutants discharged into Muar river.

The Muar river is supplying drinking water for more than 1 million people, yet the discharge of industrial and household pollutants to the river is allowed by bending the laws backward.

Whatever complaint made against this issue by the small kampong folks always ignored by DOE and Johor government because the owner is a MCA leader and also a donor for DPM Muhydddin.

The opposition parties in Pagoh always in the hibernation mode and only wake up for awhile during the election campaign days. This critical local issue was never brought up by DAP, PR and PAS for past 15 years.

PR wants to wrest Johor from BN control is another daylight dream with such a pathetic performance.

More efficient waste management with pact

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin receiving the waste management agreement from SWM Environment Sdn Bhd director Tan Sri Sabaruddin Chik. With them are Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung (left) and his deputy, Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin.

PUTRAJAYA: More efficient service at no extra cost — this was the outcome of a tripartite agreement between the Federal Government, nine state governments and three solid waste management companies yesterday.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who witnessed the signing, expressed hope that the accord would put an end to illegal dumping.
