No border conflict with Malaysia: Indonesia
The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network
Tuesday, Oct 11, 2011
INDONESIA – Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa has denied allegations that Indonesia is involved in a border conflict with neighboring country Malaysia.
Speculation may have occurred as a result of a misunderstanding over some basic terms regarding the two countries’ borders, Marty said Monday.
“Until now, we have not been involved in a border dispute with the Malaysian government. In regards to news that keeps mentioning there has been one-sided claim to Indonesia’s Tanjung Datu and Camar Bulan village, I must say that this is not true,” he said.
However, the foreign minister also acknowledged that there were several border marker stones that could not be found, for natural reasons, which could have sparked premature claiming speculation.
Marty then gave an example of a marker stone that used to be located in the northern part of Tanjung Datu and was now located below the surface of the water because of coastal abrasion.
“We are fully aware of the situation and we have been working on it,” he said.
A team comprising border experts had been deployed to fix the situation, Marty said.
The Indonesian public has been once again raising eyebrows in regards to its northern neighbor over news mentioning that Malaysia had one-sidedly claimed two territories belonging to Indonesia, the Tanjung Datu and Camar Bulan, both situated on the border between the two countries in Kalimantan/Borneo.
Although Malaysia has never threatened to cut off water supply to Singapore, yet Singapore old Lee has pestered Malaysia several times in the past with war threat on water issue.
Foreign Minister Anifah said we do not need to take war threat from LKY seriously since he is no more a spokesperson for Singapore. This is a pathetic response against an international bully.
Malaysia should not continue to supply our precious resource, water at dirt cheap price to affluent Singapore for another 51 year.
3 sen per 1000 gallons is ridiculous low price, it’s right time to review raw water price under the 1962 water agreement signed with Singapore. The raw water price sold should be adjusted to Singapore GDP growth rate and market price.
The water agreement signed with Singapore allows Malaysia to revise water price AFTER 20 year, not on 20 year as claimed by Singapore. Any dispute on water agreement should be handled by a tribunal court in Johor.
The international law should be observed by Malaysia on water price revision according to agreement, and if Singapore refuses to pay up for a new price dictated by Malaysia, Malaysia has the legal rights to cut off water supply after a proper notice is given to Singapore.
Do you think UMNO and Perkasa goons dare to take on military challenge from LKY? Obviously, they are not, they only good to bully Malaysian Chinese with kris and silat.

Court halts Australia, Malaysia refugee swap
SYDNEY — Australia’s High Court Monday extended a temporary halt on the controversial transfer of asylum seekers to Malaysia, preventing the government from sending a first group to the Asian nation.
At a hearing in Canberra, the court decided to extend an injunction on the removal of boatpeople until a further hearing can be heard, likely in the week beginning August 22.
“The (immigration) minister is restrained from removing from Australia the plaintiff (asylum seekers) until the matter is determined by the court,” a spokeswoman for the High Court told AFP.
The decision means that the government’s plans to send 16 Afghan and Sri Lankan asylum seekers to Malaysia are now on hold. The group had been due to fly to Kuala Lumpur early Monday.
Lawyers for the asylum seekers had argued that they were entitled to have their claims determined in Australia and asked the court to rule the swap deal — under which Australia will accept 4,000 refugees from Malaysia — invalid.
The government argues that Immigration Minister Chris Bowen has the power to make decisions such as this regarding asylum seekers.
Bowen has said he was expecting the so-called “Malaysia Solution” to face legal challenges, but that the government was determined to implement the plan to stem the flow of boatpeople making the perilous sea journey to Australia.
Rights groups have criticised the deal from the start, accusing Australia of not meeting its legal obligations to refugees and risking the health and safety of vulnerable people, including children.

POA solution on railway land historic: Lee
By Tengku Noor Shamsiah Tengku Abdullah
SINGAPORE, July 1 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today attributed the successful implementation of the Points of Agreement (POA) on Malayan Railway land in the city state as a historic breakthrough in Singapore-Malaysia ties.
Lee said that with the closing of this chapter, “our countries can now move ahead to advance our many shared interests.”
“The amicable resolution of a bilateral issue which has remained outstanding for almost 20 years is of great significance,” he said when commenting on the implementation of the POA.
Lee said: “Today, we mark a historic breakthrough in our bilateral relations.
“I would like to thank Prime Minister Najib Razak for his leadership and determination, which has enabled us to work out a win-win deal and move our relationship forward.”
Lee also thanked ministers and officials on both sides, saying that their hard work and good cooperation led to the successful implementation of the agreement.
After 80 years of faithful service, the curtains came down on the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) Tanjung Pagar railway station here Thursday night.
It was a poignant scene at the station’s platforms when the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, himself drove out the last train from the station at 11 pm, marking the end of a long chapter in KTMB history.
The Singapore government will preserve the Tanjong Pagar railway station due to its deep historical significance.
At their Retreat on May 24 last year, prime ministers Lee and Najib announced in their Joint Statement that the KTMB station would be relocated from Tanjong Pagar to the Woodlands Train Checkpoint (WTCP) effective today.
Both leaders had also agreed that the Tanjong Pagar railway station passenger terminal building would be conserved, given its historical significance.
The old Bukit Timah railway station building at Blackmore Drive would also be preserved.
With the relocation of the KTMB station from Tanjong Pagar to WTCP, both the Tanjong Pagar and Bukit Timah railway station have ceased to operate as KTMB railway facilities.
