Penang social activist was attacked by samseng sponsored by Penang government

Ong Eu Soon is a social activist I respect for giving no-nonsense critics against Lim Guag Eng and his state government.

I urge CM Lim instructed a thorough investigation on this allegation and bring the attackers from PPS to justice before PPS is turned into mafia like Perkasa.

Activist assaulted, alleges political motive

GEORGE TOWN: A social activist who was assaulted last night by a group of helmet-wielding men alleged today that the attack was politically motivated.

Ong Eu Soon, 52, told a press conference that some of his attackers were wearing the purple vest of the Voluntary Police Patrol Unit (PPS), an agency created and sponsored by the state government.

He said the assailants told him they objected to his outspokenness and his criticism of the state government.

Ong, who sustained a swollen eye and minor injuries, has sought outpatient treatment at the Penang Hospital.

He said the attack happened at a marketplace in Bandar Baru Air Itam at 10.45pm.

He said he was sitting with some newspaper vendors when the group approached and one of them asked, “Where is Ong Eu Soon?

“When I asked why they were looking for him, they said they didn’t like his attitude and criticism against the state government.

“When I introduced myself, I was attacked.”

He said the assailants fled when some onlookers intervened.

“It’s a politically motivated attack,” he said. “This should not have happened. It’s shocking that PPS can attack people. Even police don’t do this.

“Penang is getting worse. No room for social activists and critics like me.”

Ong said he had been critical in his Facebook postings against various state policies and projects.

Police are investigating the case under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
