Brunei ceded Sabah to Sulu Sultan?

But in 1658, the Sultan of Brunei awarded the northeast of Borneo (Sabah), including Palawan, to the Sultan of Sulu in compensation for his help in settling the civil war in his sultanate.

This is a lie repeated by Sulu Sultans to make it appears like a historical fact. According to historical records, no formal agreement signed between Brunei Sultan and Sulu Sultan for ceding Sabah to Sulu Sultan.

In fact, Brunei’s 24th Sultan, Sultan Abdul Momin, appointing Baron de Overbeck as the Maharaja Sabah, Rajah Gaya and Sandakan signed on 29th December 1877.

Sulu Sultans always made wild claim on Sabah although the Brunei Sultan was not signing any ceding treaty with the Sulu Sultan.

Filipinos can also make claim that United States is theirs, but Uncle Sam will tell you “Wanna get nuclear bomb?” or “Get lost?”.
