FMT LETTER: From Calvin Sankaran, via e-mail

For Penang, the future looks golden. Records are falling like ten-pins, accolades are pouring in. Investors are stampeding in at a record pace – with 2010 seeing a gargantuan 465% increase over the previous year. And for the first time ever, Penang proudly perched at the No 1 position in Malaysia for attracting investment, a huge leap from the 4th place in 2009.

The state’s financial health looks very robust and is at an unprecedented high too – reaching RM1.025 billion in accumulated funds in 2009.

Revenues are up in tandem, climbing to RM376 million. As the icing on the cake, the northern state also chalked up a budget surplus of RM77 million for the same period.

Much also has been reported about the stunning turnaround of the previously loss-making MPSP (Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Prai). After suffering from eight years of consecutive deficits, MPSP has managed reverse this trend in 2008, when Pakatan took over the state administration.

In 2009 MPSP had recorded a surplus of RM14.57 million and saw an increase of 50% in its reserves.

Penang's achievements under LGE is a joke!

These so-called 30 achievements are a joke.

Putting up a “No to ISA” billboard also an achievement is damned stupid and childish, but what do you expect from a big mouth politician like DAP LGE.

What the Penangites expect from Penang PR government is economic, talent pool, public transport and environment development programs.

Lim Guan Eng is the most stupid CM in Penang's history

A huge manufacturing project costing USD 3 billion will not appear in Penang overnight and the needs of 1000 E & E engineers will be in staggering basis.

Penang state government has at least two years grace period to drive an international talent recruitment campaign.

I will find 1000 E&E engineers for LGE if the company is willing to pay them 75% of Singapore-grade salary. Many Malaysians in overseas are happy to return home with this competitive salary scheme.

Instead of saying no, LGE should be more resourceful to help foreign investors. Many Malaysians are willing to help him if he is bold enough to take such challenge to make impossible to possible. This courage separates a great leader from a bunch of “politikus” in Bolehland.

What country in the Asia can promise you 1000 E &E engineers with at least three years experience on the spot? The answer is none.

LGE is a totally hopeless CM after he rejected 3 billion investment for no good reason.

Another daylight lie from his “machai”, did LGE bring in 10.2 billion in 2008? He was just installed as a CM in March 2008 and his seat was not yet warmed up [...]

LGE is better to do soul-searching before too late

Penang PR government under LGE definitely will be kicked out from Penang IF they keep doing things like now.

In one occasion, he abruptly stopped the media briefing when someone brought his youngest son to the conference room and played with his kid. This is very unprofessional conduct as a CM.

LGE can talk a lot, but cannot get thing done is his weakness.

They better learn something from Selangor and Perak PR government before too late.

LGE and his gang still got time and change for better in next four yours if they are willing to listen grouses from the rakyat.

Survey: Penang govt must fulfil promises

GEORGE TOWN: A survey by Suaram has shown that the people of Penang are demanding that the state government make good its promise of a competent, accountable and transparent administration. Most respondents want Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his state executive committee members to make public their assets as is being done by their counterparts in Selangor.

Suaram co-ordinator Lau Shu Shi said the survey should not be interpreted as an attempt to attack or discredit the year-old state government.

She said the administration’s failure to [...]
