Why eating nuts could save your life

EATING a handful of nuts each day just might be the thing that saves your life.

People who regularly eat nuts are less likely to die of cancer or heart disease, and are less likely to die of any other cause, according to a new Harvard study.

We’ve long known that nuts are great for our health – they’re an excellent source of protein and contain “good fats” (unsaturated fatty acids) as well as loads of minerals.

But new research monitoring the health of 119,00 people over a 30-year period found those who ate nuts roughly everyday were 20 per cent less likely to die than those who never ate nuts, reports Associated Press.

The risk of dying of heart disease dropped 29 per cent and the risk of dying of cancer fell 11 per cent among those who ate nuts seven or more times a week, compared with people who never ate them.
